Diamond Nail Drill Bits

Diamond nail drill bits have a metal core (usually stainless steel or tungsten carbide) coated with a layer of fine diamond particles. They feel like fine sandpaper and come in various grits (coarse to extra fine) for different purposes.

Diamond bits are primarily used for detailed work, refining, smoothing, and finishing. They are perfect for removing natural nail shine (debridement), buffing, smoothing ridges, refining the surface after product removal, and creating a perfect finish on hard gel.

Apply minimal pressure. Use a light, sweeping or “painting” motion across the surface. Diamond bits generate friction heat quickly, so constantly move the bit and check the temperature. They are not for bulk removal; they are for finishing.

Diamond bits are porous due to their coating and should NOT be autoclaved unless the manufacturer explicitly states they are autoclave-safe. Standard cleaning involves brushing away debris thoroughly and then immersing in an EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectant for the full contact time. Some may be safely disinfected in a UV/LED light unit. Always follow the bit manufacturer’s guidelines.

Diamond bits are best used at medium to high speeds, typically between 10,000 and 20,000 RPM. Higher speeds allow for a smoother finish with less “grab” or vibration. Use a higher grit (finer) bit at higher speeds for polishing. Lower speeds with coarser grits can be used for light refinement.
